A Irlanda e o Reino Unido não estavam originalmente nos
planos, já que eram destinos que nós pretendíamos fazer no futuro em um estilo
diferente, mas, por questões de visto, foi uma opção que encontramos para que
pudéssemos visitar a Islândia na época que queríamos. Em 20 dias nós passamos
pela Irlanda, Irlanda do Norte, Escócia e Inglaterra. Na verdade foi apenas uma
breve visita em cada lugar, mas muito interessante e divertido, já que pudemos
também visitar alguns amigos e parentes.
Chegamos na Irlanda em um dia típico, muito frio, nublado e
ventoso, ficamos, pela primeira vez, com medo da aterrisagem do avião que
balançou muito antes de finalmente tocar o chão. No primeiro dia andamos pelas
ruas movimentadas de Dublin, vimos inúmeros brasileiros e passamos pelas
divertidas lojas de souvenir. Nós na verdade descobrimos algo engraçado, que a
gente pode aprender com as lojas de souvenir! Claro que não muito e as vezes só
o estereotipo de um país, mas já é alguma coisa quando se sabe tão pouco. Nós ficamos
na casa de um português chamado Pedro que estava morando lá fazia poucos meses
e planejando uma viagem muito legal pela América do Sul.
Visitamos a fábrica da Guinness, o que foi na verdade mais
uma promoção da marca do que qualquer outra coisa, mas interessante já que ela está
ali desde 1759. O curioso foi que a visitamos no Arthur’s Day, dia de
celebração da Guinness, sem saber!! Eles comemoram exatamente às 17:59, fazendo
relação ao ano em que foi criada e neste exato momento, coincidentemente,
estávamos no pub da cervejaria, quando o “Master Brewer” pegou o microfone e
propôs o brinde: “to Arthur!”. Tudo fez sentido somente a noite quando
descobrimos a data. Fomos à um tradicional pub ver a celebração e, claro,
tomamos uma Guinness.
Em outro dia fizemos uma longa e linda trilha na península
que fica perto de Dublin, percorrendo o alto de pequenos penhascos. A paisagem de
fato foi muito bonita e diferente.
Infelizmente nós tivemos a nossa primeira experiência
“neutra” no couchsurfing. Um usuário que morava em uma cidade pequena no oeste
do país aceitou o nosso pedido, respondeu a nossa segunda mensagem, passou o
número do seu celular, mas quando chegou mais perto não atendeu mais as nossas
ligações ou respondeu nossas mensagens. Como não tínhamos o endereço e lugar
para ficar e estava muito em cima, resolvemos ficar um pouco mais com o Pedro e
fazer um tour até o oeste. Como todo tour, foi muito corrido e muito
superficial. Chega-se ao lugar, tira-se fotos, compra-se lembrancinhas e
volta-se para o ônibus, muito diferente do ritmo que estávamos acostumados até
então. Mas ao mesmo tempo valeu a pena pelas curiosidades do lugar, as piadas
do motorista e o show que os turistas dão, com suas demoras, risadas,
exclamações e perguntas.
Os penhascos são realmente muito bonitos! E o tempo é muito
engraçado! Estava chovendo muito quando chegamos, o céu estava negro. Passados
cerca de 15 minutos parou de chover e nós saíamos do museu para ver os famosos
penhascos, o sol abriu no caminho. Passados 10 minutos, o tempo fechou de novo,
choveu e ventou tanto que nós chegamos a ficar encharcados. Mas cerca de 10
minutos depois, advinha? Abriu um sol lindíssimo, como se nunca tivesse chovido
naquele dia!!! Tiramos fotos lindas e admiramos a paisagem. Quando voltamos ao
ônibus as nuvens negras já apareciam ao fundo, fomos com chuva até a próxima
parada, mas quando descemos do ônibus: sol!!!
A situação da Irlanda do norte é um pouco complicada. Ela
não tem bandeira própria e é considerada por muitos como Irlanda, mas não faz
parte do mesmo país. Lendo a respeito e conversando com os moradores locais
descobrimos que a situação é realmente de complicado entendimento, por isso nem
vamos tentar explicar aqui. Nós ficamos na casa do Sean, um irlandês muito divertido.
Ele gosta muito de música, como muitos irlandeses, e nos levou para assistir
apresentações de artistas locais muito talentosos.
Os Irlandeses são bastante orgulhosos do país. O idioma Irlandês
é bastante falado, eles aprendem porque não querem deixar a língua morrer, mas ainda
falam inglês na maioria das vezes. As construções já tem um ar mais nórdico, predominando
uma cor ferrugem muito bonita.
Visitamos uns amigos do Pedro que
moram na Escócia, o Danilo e a Marta. Eles têm um filho de 1 ano e 8 meses,
muito fofo e muito simpático, seu nome é Nicolas!! Passamos 5 dias com eles,
estava frio, mas os dias lindos, visitamos um pouco do interior, uma fábrica de
whisky e as ruínas de um castelo de frente para o mar, um espetáculo! A
paisagem do país de forma geral é deslumbrante!! Nós conversamos bastante,
tomamos decisões em relação a viagem e aproveitamos a ótima companhia.
Seguimos depois para Leeds, na Inglaterra, onde passamos
apenas dois dias com a prima do Pedro que mora lá. O nome dela é Karine, ela é
casada com o inglês James e tem um filho de 3 anos muito esperto e simpático.
Nós passeamos pela cidade durante o dia e aproveitamos as noites com eles.
Ficar com famílias
brasileiras nos fez sentir saudades de casa, pensar no nosso futuro e no que
faremos quando voltarmos ao Brasil. Foi a primeira vez que conversamos mais
sobre família e filhos do que sobre viagens. Mas foi bom, nós descobrimos que
não estamos preocupados com a volta, mas empolgados com ela.
Bom, mas todo esse papo e pensamentos duraram pouco, já que
em Londres nós voltamos ao couchsurfing e ficamos na casa do Marcin e da
Olimpia, um casal polonês que está planejando uma viagem incrível ao redor do
mundo. Conversando nós descobrimos que as motivações deles são muito
semelhantes às nossas, o que foi muito legal!!! É sempre bom conhecer pessoas
tão amáveis, tão generosas e com ideias tão fascinantes! Nós passeamos pelo
centro de Londres, apreciamos as construções, os parques e o sol! Mas novamente
o ponto alto foram as pessoas incríveis que conhecemos! Eles passarão pelo Brasil
e nós estamos ansiosos para hospedá-los!
Os 20 dias passaram rápido e foram muito agradáveis. Nós tivemos
muita sorte com o tempo, já que, acreditem ou não, o sol brilhou todos os dias
da nossa estada! Foi de fato incrível. E chegou a hora tão esperada da
Islândia, nosso próximo destino! =)

Ireland
and the United Kingdom were not originally in the plans since these were
destinations we wanted to do in the future in a different style, but, because
of the visa, it was an option that we could find to visit Iceland at the time
we wanted. In 20 days we went around Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.
It was in fact just a quick visit on each place, but very interesting and fun, since
we got to visit friends and relatives.
We arrived
in Ireland on a typical day, very cold, cloudy and windy. For the first time we
were afraid of the plane landing, that shook a lot before touching the ground.
On the first day we walked through the busy streets of Dublin, saw numerous
Brazilians and had fun at the souvenir shops. We actually found out a funny
thing, that we can learn from souvenirs shops! Of course just a few or a
stereotype of a country, but it’s something when we know so little. We stayed
with a Portuguese guy named Pedro who was living there for only a few months
and was planning a very cool trip around South America.
We visited
the Guinness factory, which was actually more a brand advertising than anything
else, but interesting as it’s been there since 1759. The curious thing was that
we visited it on Arthur's Day, the Guinness celebration day, without knowing it!
They celebrate it exactly at 17:59, relating to the year it was created, and at
this very moment, coincidentally, we were in the pub's brewery, when the
"Master Brewer" took the microphone and proposed the toast: “to
Arthur”. Everything made sense only at night when we found out about the
date. We went to a traditional pub for the celebration and, of course, had a
Guinness.
On another
day we went for a long and beautiful hike on the peninsula near Dublin, walking
on the top of small cliffs. The scenery was indeed very pretty and different.
Unfortunately
we had our first "neutral" experience on couchsurfing. A user who
lived in a small town in the west of the country accepted our request, answered
to our second message and gave us his phone number, but when it got closer to
the date we would arrive he stopped answering our calls and messages. As we had
no address and no place to stay, we decided to stay a little longer with Pedro
and take a tour to the west. Like every tour, it had a tight schedule and was
very superficial. You get to the place, take pictures, buy souvenirs and get
back to the bus, a much different pace than we were used to on our travels. But
it was worth it for the curiosities about the place, driver’s jokes and the funny
tourists with their delays, laughter, exclamations and questions.
The cliffs
are really fabulous, amazingly beautiful and huge! And the weather is very
funny! It was raining hard when we arrived and the sky was black. After about
15 minutes it stopped raining and we left the museum to see the famous cliffs,
the sun shined on the way. After 10 minutes, the weather got bad again, it
rained so much and the wind was so strong that we got soaked. But about 10
minutes later, guess what? A beautiful sun was out, as if it had never rained
that day!! We took pictures and admire the beautiful scenery. When we got back
to the bus, the dark clouds have appeared again, it rained until the next stop,
but when we got off the bus: sunny!!
The
situation in Northern Ireland is a bit tricky. It doesn’t have an own flag and
is considered by many as Ireland, but it’s not the same country. Reading about
it and talking to the locals we found out that the situation is really
complicated to understand, so we will not try to explain here. We stayed with
Sean, a very fun Irish man. He loved music, like many Irish, and led us to
watch musical performances with incredibly good local artists.
The Irish
people are very proud of their country. Irish language is well spoken, they
learn it because they don’t want to let the language die, but still speak
English most of the time. The buildings now have a more Nordic style and a beautiful
rust colour.
We visited
Pedro’s friends who live in Scotland, Danilo and Marta. They have a 1 year and
8 months son, very cute and friendly, his name is Nicolas! We spent five days
with them, it was cold, but with beautiful days, we visited the surroundings, a
whiskey factory and ruins of a castle by the sea, it was really spectacular!
The landscape of the country in general is stunning! We talked a lot, made decisions
regarding the trip and enjoyed the great company.
We went
then to Leeds, England, where we spent two days with Pedro's cousin who lives
there. Her name is Karine, she is married to the English James and has a very smart
and friendly 3 year old son. We strolled through the city during the day and
enjoyed the evening with them.
Staying
with Brazilian families made us miss home, think about our future and what we
will do when we get back to Brazil. It was the first time we talked about
family and children more than travel. But it was good, we found out that we are
not really concerned, but excited about our return.
Well, but
all this talk and thoughts did not last long, because in London we went back to
couchsurfing and stayed with Marcin and Olimpia, a Polish couple who are
planning an amazing trip around the world. Chatting we discovered that their
motivations are very similar to ours, which was really cool!! It's always good
to meet such incredible people, so generous and with so fascinating ideas. We walked
through central London, appreciated the beautiful constructions, the parks and
the sun! But again the highlight was the wonderful people we get to know! They are
going to Brazil and we are eager to host them! =)
The 20
days passed quickly and were very pleasant. We were very lucky with the weather
because, believe it or not, the sun shone every day of our stay! It was indeed
something amazing. And it is time for the so awaited Iceland, our next
destination! =)
